Picnic with Macknade

Good evening everyone,

Hope you are all still doing well, as well as we all can during this strange time. I really needed to see my girls last week for a good overdue catch up (socially distanced one that is) and we decided to pop to Macknade as we often did before for coffee or cake. We were reminded that it was picnic week last week and the sun was out so what better way to celebrate than going to pick up a few things.

I have been to Macknade Faversham (their Flagship Food Hall) a few times before and always loved their products and the ambiance, there is something so special about Macknade. The family business there have been trading for over 40 years and when they announced last year they were coming to Ashford in the Elwick Place area I was so thrilled.

I had a wonderful experience back in March when they opened and went for a lovely breakfast with a friend, sadly Covid happened and well you know where that led everyone.

Macknade has finally reopened its doors and I could not be more excited, it is now a brand new food shopping experience for Ashford and I love every part of it, I found some lovely produce from Kent and the surroundings and it’s so lovely to try things made locally.

Macknade has over 170 years of experience in food, farming and retail and it’s clear that they know what they are doing, they have a wide range of wines to choose from as well, including local favourites like Gusbourne and Woodchurch (we usually have those two brands when it comes to having family or parties over). We tried a few of their Kentish cheeses and charcuterie and as a picky French eater I gotta say they did not disappoint. It’s not because you can’t go to Europe at the moment that you can’t let Europe come to you so have a try at their European selection too!

The whole shopping experience felt totally safe and enjoyable, the staff as always is so friendly and caring, There is so much space to wonder around without bumping into someone and also it’s cleaner than clean which is a plus and must these days. I would highly recommend popping by to get a good selection of products for either a friendly summer picnic or a family day out or even to do your weekly shop (it’s 100% nicer than shopping in supermarkets at the moment trust me)

Our food was so delicious, we had some delicious tomatoes to start with, followed by salami, ham and cheese on crackers and baguette with a side of wine. We also tried a lovely juice and a delicious fresh salad with some lovely crisps! We honestly had the best time and could not have done it without Macknade and it’s lovely selection for every taste!

I hope you have tried or will try the new experience at Macknade Elwick Place, Ashford because it’s worth it for me, I love knowing my selection is fresh and local and for that I can’t be more grateful to live less than 5 min from them.

Don’t forget to also try their Flagship Food Hall in Faversham it’s a lovely place too!
